MAHG hikes all year round, so our members do not lose conditioning during the winter. Our policy is to hike under all weather conditions except during lightning or if the roads to the trail are unsafe (floods, ice, etc.). If a hike is within three hours of the D.C. - Baltimore area, MAHG makes it a day trip. If a hike is outside that radius, MAHG makes it into a camping/hiking trip. MAHG offers hikes for all skill levels. From the flat, two mile hike on pavement, to the ultra-crazy forty-plus mile day hike along the Appalachian Trail (AT), MAHG offers everything in-between because we remember where we came from. We maintain a variety of Easy, Moderate, Strenuous, and Very Strenuous hikes.

While MAHG does not focus on kayaking, it does offer a number of trips to unique sites in the Mid-Atlantic region. The kayaking trips attempt to show the rich diversity and history of the Mid-Atlantic region's waters. If a kayaking trip is within three hours of the D.C. - Baltimore area, MAHG makes it a day trip. If a kayaking trip is outside that radius, MAHG makes it into a camping/kayaking trip.
