Note that you are responsible for knowing how to get from carpool locations to the venue. Mid-Atlantic Hiking Group is not responsible for transportation to and from events or carpools. Suggested carpool times and locations are provided as a courtesy because many members are either new to the area or unfamiliar with a particular hike or venues location. Please use the Comments section below, or reach out via e-mail to make arrangements for carpooling needs and/or offerings.
If you can drive or want to carpool from any particular location, please post your offer to help those in need of a ride, and those looking for a ride, in the comment section below. Forther below on this page is a partial list of suggested carpool locations, each complete with a physical address, GPS coordinates, driving directions and additional carpool information. We highly encourage those who are in need of a ride to reach out to the drivers. Please simply put your carpool needs or offers in the comment section for a future hike. It is a great way to make friends and support the environment — by just offering a ride!
Riders, please do not be a tool, and be certain to pay your driver for carpooling or you will not be offered a ride in the future. While carpooling is all about saving oil, gas, and most of all, making new friends while helping a ride go by faster. What carpooling certainly is NOT, is a free ride.
A good rule of thumb is to pay drivers .07 cents per miles per passenger no matter what the vehicle size or type and no matter how many people are in the vehicle. This keeps it simple and the only thing everyone in the car needs to know is the mileage, and it will always be less than if you drove on your own car.
Riders and Drivers, please make sure you are Early or On Time and give yourself plenty of time to get to the Trailhead.
The lot is small, look to the left as you enter. We meet in the southwest corner of the lot.

Take I-66 westbound (toward Front Royal) from the Beltway (I-495). If you are entering I-66 west of the Beltway, be sure the entrance is numbered greater than (i.e. east of) 52. (If coming from the south, you may want to go to Manassas and backtrack.)
Exit I-66 at exit 52. Exit 52 is about a mile after Exit 53 which is Route 28 that goes to Dulles Airport. When you see the signs for Route 28 to Dulles Airport, don't take that exit, but you are close.
At the end of the off ramp, turn right (west) on Route 29. Since Route 29 is, overall, a north/south road, the sign may say "south." But you are headed to the west, away from DC and toward the mountains. Go to Park and Ride, second right. The lot is small, look to the left as you enter. We meet in the southwest corner of the lot.
Meetup in the Vienna Metro North Parking Lot. This is also a Metro Stop that supplies Zip Cars.
