Veterans Hike Across Maryland A.T. - Fox Gap We meet in the parking lot next to the Civil War Correspondents Memorial. There are over 60 parking spots in this lot and additional parking is also available across the street. NOTE: The War Correspondents Arch is a National historic monument. Constructed in 1896, the monument stands fifty feet high and forty feet broad. It is very hard to miss, making it a landmark to help locate where to park. GPS Coordinates: 39.470550, -77.617637 Physical Address: 8630 Reno Monument Rd, Middletown, MD 21769 Note: This address is for a residential address ~1200-1500 east of the Appalachian Trail on Reno Monument Rd. The parking lot is on the south side of Reno Monument Rd. Driving Directions: From I-70W and I-695: Head west on I-70 W (3.7 miles). Continue straight to stay on I-70 W (34.1 miles). Keep left to stay on I-70 W (3.8 miles). Take exit 49 for US-40 Alt toward Braddock Heights/Middletown (0.2 miles). Use any lane to turn left onto US-40 ALT W (6.9 miles). Turn left onto Bolivar Rd (0.8 miles). Turn right onto Reno Monument Rd (1.2 miles). Destination is on your left. From I-270N and I-495: Head northwest on I-270 N (29.1 miles). Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 32 to merge onto I-70 W toward Hagerstown (4.2 miles). Take exit 49 for US-40 Alt toward Braddock Heights/Middletown (0.2 miles). Use any lane to turn left onto US-40 ALT W (6.9 miles). Turn left onto Bolivar Rd (0.8 miles). Turn right onto Reno Monument Rd (1.2 miles). Destination is on your left. Public Transportation: There is no public transportation to this area. NOTE: Please remember to take the leader(s) number(s) with you but please respect the fact that we are all volunteers and there is often no cell coverage at trailheads and varies according to service provider. If you call very close to hike time, please understand that we are very busy with pre-hike preparations for ourselves in addition to group sign in, pre-hike briefing, and then leading the hike. It is also very difficult to provide instructions to someone while following them too, hence providing very detailed directions on this separate page.
