There is a large wooden sign along Gunston Road marking the field office and stable area for the lower Potomac field office and stables for the BLM which is where we meet. The "official" name of the parking area is the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) - Eastern States Lower Potomac Field Station.

Take I-95 South. Take Lorton exit 163. At the end of the ramp, turn LEFT onto Lorton Road. Go 0.8 miles to RIGHT at traffic light onto Armistead Road. Go 0.2 miles to RIGHT at traffic light onto Route 1 South. Go 0.9 miles to LEFT at traffic light onto Gunston Road. Go 1.7 miles to the main entrance of the Meadowood SRMA.

Take I-95 North. Take Lorton exit 161, Route 1 North (towards Ft. Belvoir/Mt. Vernon). Follow the ramp onto Route 1 North. Go 1.7 miles and turn RIGHT at the first traffic light onto Gunston Road. Go approximately 1.7 miles, past the Lorton Elementary school and Belmont Blvd. Drive until you see the BLM signs located to your RIGHT.

Please remember to take the leader(s) number(s) with you but please respect the fact that we are all volunteers and there is often no cell coverage at trailheads and varies according to service provider. If you call very close to hike time, please understand that we are very busy with pre-hike preparations for ourselves in addition to group sign in, pre-hike briefing, and then leading the hike. It is also very difficult to provide instructions to someone while following them too, hence providing very detailed directions on this separate page. Leaders are advised to not answer phones once a hike is started so we don't miss a turn on the trail due to the distraction of a call. Thank you for your understanding and see you there!
